Cognate to Nagasaki, Amakusa (Kumamoto), Kagoshima and Tanegashima みな mina "snail"; Kagoshima びな bina "pond snail"; Kikai みにゃ minya and みや miya "snail"; Nakijin みなー minaa and なー naa "snail"; Ōgami /mmnɑ/; standard Japanese にな【蜷】 nina "marsh snail"; Old Japanese みな mina (cf. Wamyō ruijushō, 938 CE). Also related to Amakusa (Kumamoto) and Kagoshima たみな tamina "pond snail"; Tokunoshima たみな tamina, たんみゃ tanmya and たんにゃ tannya "snail"; Nakijin たんなー tannaa "pond snail"; and Okinawan たーんな taanna "pond snail; mud snail" (< *ta-mina 【田蜷】). Other derived terms include 蜷貝, 川蜷, 海蜷, 磯蜷, 蜷田 and 三角蜷.
