Etymology

Cognate to Amakusa (Kumamoto) and Kagoshima たみな tamina "pond snail"; Tokunoshima たみな tamina, たんみゃ tanmya and たんにゃ tannya "snail"; Nakijin たんなー tannaa "pond snail"; and Okinawan たーんな taanna "pond snail; mud snail". Ultimately a compound of 【田】 ta "rice field" and みな【蜷】 mina "snail".

Notes

This form is attested in the North-East of Tokunoshima. More common forms include たんみゃ tanmya and たんにゃ tannya.
