Cognate to Miyako and Tarama すとぅむてぃ sutumuti "early morning"; Yaeyama すとぅむでぃ sutumudi; and the standard Japanese expression つとめて【努めて・勉めて・力めて】 tsutomete "diligently".
Attested in the Konkoukenshuu (混効験集, 1711), "Words of the Royal Palace", under the spelling すとめて sutomete.
