- The eighth solar term in East-Asian lunisolar calendars that begins around May 1 and ends around June 5, generally known as the Xiaoman or "Grain full" term. It is usually associated with the rainy season in Okinawa (May 8 to June 23).
Etymology
Cognate with standard Japanese しょうまん【小満】 shouman "the eighth solar term". Ultimately from Chinese 【小滿・小满】 "grain full" (cf. Mandarin xiǎomǎn; Cantonese siu2 mun5; Min Dong siēu-māng; Sino-Korean 소만 soman; and Sino-Vietnamese tiểu mãn).
