Etymology

From あんだ【油】 anda "oil" and あぎー【揚ぎー】 agii "fried". Cognate with standard Japanese あぶらあげ【油揚げ】 abura age "fried in oil".

Notes

Also called: さーたあんだぎー・さーたーあんだぎー【砂糖油揚ぎー】 saata andagii or saataa andagii.

These pastries are made by mixing flour, sugar and eggs together, shaping the resulting dough into balls, and then deep-frying them in oil.
