Likely cognate to Kansai どかん dokan; Nagasaki どんぽ donpo; Kumamoto どんかっちょ donkaccho and どんくゎっちょ donkwaccho; Amakusa (Kumamoto) どぐら dogura; and standard Japanese どんこ・ドンコ【鈍甲】 donko "dark sleeper (sp. Odontobutis obscura)". Likely also cognate to Kumamoto どぐら dogura "slug; beach conger eel" and Amakusa (Kumamoto) ずぐらめ zugurame "snail".
