Attested as early as in the 1711 混効験集 Konkoukenshuu Okinawan dictionary (p. 5), under the spelling こぞ kozo. Cognate to the older Japanese term こぞ【去年】 kozo "last year", now mostly replaced with the on-reading きょねん kyonen.
