Cognate with Kumamoto, Kagoshima, Miyazaki and Oita あど ado "heel"; as well as Kikai and Okinawan あどぅ adu "heel".

  • Essay in Aid of a Grammmar and Dictionary of the Luchuan Language (1895), by Basil Hall Chamberlain, records "Adu, the heel. (Conf. atu, behind, identical with Jap. ato, behind, of which kakato, the Jap. for heel, is doubtless a compound.)".
