ももそち【百】

momosochi

Pronunciation: [momosot͡ɕi]

Definition

Noun

  1. (Archaism) One hundred; hundred

Etymology

Attested in the 1711 混効験集 Konkoukenshuu Okinawan dictionary (p. 14), under the spelling モヽシチ momosochi. Cognate to the historically attested Japanese form もも【百】 momo "hundred".

Notes

The expected modern Okinawan reflex would be むむすち *mumusuchi. The Sinitic term ひゃく hyaku has, however, replaced it in the common language.
