やそち【八十・80】 : yasochi | define meaning
yasochi
Pronunciation: [jasot͡ɕi]
Definition
Noun
- (Archaism) Eighty
Etymology
Attested in the 1711 混効験集 Konkoukenshuu Okinawan dictionary (p. 14), under the spelling ヤソチ yasochi. Cognate to the historically attested Japanese forms やそ yaso and やそじ yasoji "eighty".
Notes
The expected modern Okinawan reflex would be やすち *yasuchi. The Sinitic term はちじゅう hachijuu has, however, replaced it in the common language.
