Etymology

Cognate with standard Japanese じつ【実】 jitsu "truth". Ultimately from Chinese 【實・实】 "full; truth" (cf. Mandarin shí; Cantonese sat6; Eastern Min sĭk; Hokkien cha̍t and si̍t), reconstructed for Middle Chinese as *zyit.
