Etymology
Possibly from Chinese 【餑餑】 "pastry; steamed bun" (cf. Mandarin bōbo; Cantonese but6 but6). Alternatively related to Chinese 【薄餅・薄饼】 "popiah (stuffed wrap or spring roll made from wheat flour)" (cf. Mandarin báobǐng; Cantonese bok6 beng2; Hokkien po̍h-piáⁿ) and 【薄薄】 "flimsy" (cf. Mandarin bóbó).
