Derived from the nominal form of the verb うむいん【想いん】 umuin, meaning "to think or reminisce about someone", "to yearn for someone", "to miss someone", and "to become attached to someone". Followed by the person suffix あー・やー aa ~ yaa. Related to the older Japanese term おもいびと【想い人】 omoibito "lover", which now means "someone one loves and yearns to be with".
