ぬくじり【鋸】

nukujiri

Pronunciation: [nukud͡ʑiɾi]

Definition

Noun

  1. Saw; traditional hand saw

Etymology

Derived from のこぎり【鋸】 nokogiri "saw", itself formed from the root のこ【鋸】 noko, meaning "saw", and the rendaku counterpart of きり【切り】 kiri, the nominative form of the verb "cut". のこ noko may ultimately be related to the verbs のこる【残る】 nokoru and  のこす【残す・遺す】 nokosu, meaning "to remain, to be left over", through semantic association of "remains (residue)" with the sheddings left over from a saw. Thus, のこぎり nokogiri could be interpreted as "(that which) cuts sheddings" or "shedding cutter".

意味:のこぎり【鋸】
