Derived from the honorific prefix ぐ【御】 gu-, and the noun りー【礼】 rii "gratitude, bow" (cognate to standard Japanese as れい【礼】 rei "gratitude, bow"). Cognate to Kagoshima ごれ【ご礼・御礼】 gore, used as an expression of gratitude.
