Cognate with Kagoshima あひい ahii and あひ ahi; Kunigami (Oku) あぺるー aperuu and あぺらー aperaa; Okinawan あふぃる afiru, あひる ahiru, あふぃらー afiraa and あひらー ahiraa; and standard Japanese あひる【家鴨・鶩】 ahiru "duck".
