Related to the standard Japanese onomatopoeic adverbs: ぴょこぴょこ pyokopyoko, meaning in small steps, in small leaps (like a frog), or in a jumping manner; ひょこひょこ hyokohyoko, meaning in unsteady steps; ひょっこり hyokkori, meaning suddenly; and ぴょこん pyokon, meaning quickly in a bobbing manner. Possibly related to the standard term ひよこ【雛】 hiyoko "a young, juvenile bird".
