Etymology

From ぐりー【御礼】 gurii "bow" and バンバン banban "continuously", so-named for its habit of spreading its arms and bobbing its head to intimidate predators, resembling bowing.

Notes

This species' natural range includes the Northern Ryukyu Islands up to Yakushima island in the prefecture of Kagoshima. It can also be found in southern and eastern Kyushu, where it is considered to be non-native.
