Etymology

From こーれーぐす【高麗胡椒】 koreegusu "chili pepper" and くぇー kwee, possibly from the verb くゎいん kwain "to eat".

Notes

The Okinawa tree lizard's natural range includes the Northern Ryukyu Islands up to Yakushima island in the prefecture of Kagoshima. It can also be found in southern and eastern Kyushu, where it is considered to be non-native.
