Some of the most common species of gecko around Okinawa Island are the Common Okinawa (or Ryukyu) Ground Gecko (Goniurosaurus kuroiwae kuroiwae), the Mourning Gecko (Lepidodactylus lugubris), and the House Gecko (Hemidactylus frenatus) found throughout the Ryukyu chain, as well as the Ryukyu Tokashiki Gecko (Goniurosaurus kuroiwae orientalis) found primarily in the Kerama Islands.
