まんま【飯】

manma

Pronunciation: [mamːa]

Definition

Noun

  1. (Slang, vulgar) Cooked rice; a meal; food

Etymology

Cognate to the uncommon Japanese form おまんま【お飯】 omanma "cooked rice; meal", perceived as baby talk in the standard language or vulgar in western Japanese dialects. It is believed to have derived from a contraction of the reduplicated form of the adjective うまい umai "delicious, tasty" (Yonekawa, Akihiko. "World Around Us" Beyond Polite Japanese: A Dictionary of Japanese Slang and Colloquialisms. Japan: Kodansha International, 2001. 98. Print.).

意味:ごはん【ご飯・御飯】
