Etymology

Derived from the linking form of the verb きばる【気張る】 kibaru "to do one's best", and the imperative form of the polite auxiliary verb やんす yansu "to be, to do".

Notes

The expression is used in Kagoshima where central Japanese speakers would use がんばって【頑張って】 ganbatte or がんばってください【頑張って下さい】 ganbatte kudasai「気張いやんせ」 kibaiyanse is also the name of a song by Tsuyochi Nagabuchi 【長渕剛】,  a singer-songwriter born in the Hioki district of Kagoshima Prefecture.
