Cognate with Aomori かもり kamori and こもり komori; Hachijo こーもりめ koomorime; Kagoshima こもい komoi; Amami こーぶり kooburi and こーぴり koopiri; Okinawan (Shuri) かーぶやー kaabuyaa; Okinawan (Ikeijima) こーもり koomori; standard Japanese こうもり【蝙蝠】 koumori and its variant かわほり kawahori "bat". Historically attested Japanese forms include かはほり kapapori, かほふり kapopuri, and かはぼり kapabori. Unclear relation with Ainu カパㇷ゚ kapap "bat".
