あーけーずー【秋津】

 Ryukyu (Okinawa: Itoman)

aakeezuu [aːkeːzɯː]

Definition

Noun

  1. Dragonfly, damselfly

Etymology

Cognate to the archaic Japanese term あきづ・あきつ【秋津】 akidzu ~ akitsu "dragonfly", whose kanji decompose into the noun あき【秋】 aki "Fall, autumn" and the root づ・ず【津】 dzu ~ zu, a term pertaining to water. The term is still encountered in some more literary works and appears in Japanese mythology pertaining to the Island of Dragonflies (also known as Akitsushima or Akizushima 【秋津島】), dating its usage back to the Nihon Shoki "The Chronicles of Japan" (720 CE). This name was poetically used to refer to Japan as a whole, though it may have originated from the name of a real, physical place.

意味:とんぼ・とんぼう・トンボ【蜻蛉】
