- Okinawa Rail bird (Gallirallus okinawae), sometimes referred to by its Japanese name, the Yanbaru Kuina. The species is endemic to the Northern part of Okinawa Island known as Yanbaru.
Etymology
Derived from やんばる【山原】 Yanbaru, a name referring to the northern mountainous part of Okinawa Island where the bird is found, and くみらー【水鶏】 kumiraa, meaning "water bird". In the North (Kunigami), the term is pronounced やんばるふみら yanbarufumira. The name was adapted into Japanese as やんばるくいな【山原水鶏】 yanbarukuina.
