Etymology

Derived by compounding the polite imperative ending ませ -mase onto the term  おいで【お出で・御出で】 oide, literally "(for) coming, being (here)". Related to the Kyoto expression おいでやす【お出でやす・御出でやす】 oideyasu and the standard construction おいでなさい【お出でなさい・御出でなさい】 oidenasai.
