もんも

monmo

Pronunciation: [mom̩mo]

Definition

Noun

  1. (Babytalk) Water

Etymology

Possibly related to the dialectal Japanese word まんま【飯】 manma, meaning "cooked rice; meal", perceived as baby talk in the standard language. The latter is believed to have derived from a contraction of the reduplicated form of the adjective うまい umai "delicious, tasty" (Yonekawa, Akihiko. "World Around Us" Beyond Polite Japanese: A Dictionary of Japanese Slang and Colloquialisms. Japan: Kodansha International, 2001. 98. Print.).
