Etymology
Cognate to the mainland Kagoshima variants ぐらしか gurashika and うぐらしか ugurashika, as well as the Koshikijima variant ぐわひか guwahika. Possibly derived from the noun うぐ【迂愚】 ugu "stupid, ignorant" or ぐ【愚】 gu "foolish", and the adjectival suffix らしい -rashii, meaning "seeming", "appearing" or "~ish".
