Etymology

Cognate to the mainland Kagoshima variants ぐらしか gurashika, うぐらしか ugurashika, and うぐらし ugurashi "pitiful". Possibly derived from the noun うぐ【迂愚】 ugu "stupid, ignorant" or ぐ【愚】 gu "foolish", and the adjectival suffix らしい -rashii, meaning "seeming", "appearing" or "~ish".
