Etymology

Derived from a combination of 【うp】 appu~uppu "up", an abbreviation of the English word "upload", and the expression おつかれ【お疲れ】 otsukare or おつかれさま【お疲れ様・お疲れさま】 otsukaresama, meaning "thank you (for your work)".

Notes

Commonly abbreviated うぽつ upotsu. The terms うぱり・ウパリ upari and うぱりがとう ・ウパリガトウ uparigatou, a combination of 【うp】appu~uppu "up(load)" and ありがとう arigatou "thank you" also exist.
