Etymology

Cognate to Yonaguni うぬ unu; Okinawan うぬ unu; Yuwan Amami うん un; Hachijō うの uno "that ~". Related to the defective standard Japanese root おの【己】ono-, roughly meaning "oneself", "I", or "you", as in the pronouns おのれ【己】 onore and おのが【己が】onoga among others.
