Etymology

Derived from the adverb 【良】 yu "well" and the ending くさ kusa, itself likely a fusion of the emphatic particle こそ koso and the topic paricle は wa. Cognate with the standard Japanese expression ようこそ youkoso "welcome".

Notes

The expression ゆくさ yukusa used in the Kagoshima dialect is generally followed by an honorific verbal construction, such as おさいじゃした osaijashita or おじゃったもした ojatta moshita, and subsequently the place of arrival.

Variants: いくさ【良くさ】 ikusa and ゆっさ【良っさ】 yussa.
