  • Vocabulary of the language spoken at the Great Loo-Choo Island, in the Japan Sea (1818), by Herbert John Clifford, records "The hair of the natives is formed into a knot on the crown of the head, and fastened by two pins of silver of brass, the one ornamented by a flowered head, called kamma-shishee, and the other ooshee-thushee. That worn by the children is called jeefa".
  • Lord Amherst's Embassy to China. With interesting particulars relative to the island of Lewchew, And the numerous hitherto undiscovered Islands on the Coast of Corea (1820), by Ellis, Abel and M'leod, records "[...] twisted into a neat little top-knot, is there retained by two fasteners, called camesachee and usisachee made either of gold, silver, or brass [...]; the former of these having a little star on the end of it, which points forward. [...] At the age of ten years the boys are entitled to the usisachee and at fifteen they wear both".
  • Narrative of a voyage to the Pacific and Beering's Strait, to co-operate with the Polar Expeditions (1831), by Frederick William Beechey, records "[...] his hair was secured on the top of the head by a gold hair pin, called kamesache, the first and the only one we saw made of that precious metal".
