Etymology

Cognate with standard Japanese でいご【梯梧・梯姑】 deigo "Indian coral tree" and its variant でいこ deiko.

Notes

The flower of the Indian coral tree, which blooms a bright red colour around April, was designated the official flower of Okinawa Prefecture in 1967.
