Cognate with standard Japanese すみつぼ【墨壺・墨壷・墨壼・墨斗】 sumitsubo "ink line".

Historical Ryukyuan attestations

  • Vocabulary of the language spoken at the Great Loo-Choo Island, in the Japan Sea (1818), by Herbert John Clifford, records "Carpenter's black line box. Stínseeboo".
