- Vocabulary of the language spoken at the Great Loo-Choo Island, in the Japan Sea (1818), by Herbert John Clifford, records "The hair of the natives is formed into a knot on the crown of the head, and fastened by two pins of silver of brass, the one ornamented by a flowered head, called kamma-shishee, and the other ooshee-thushee. That worn by the children is called jeefa".
