Etymology
Cognate with Kagoshima たっのき taq no ki; Yamanashi, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, Miyazaki and Kagoshima たずのき【田鶴の木】 tazu no ki "red-berried elder" (literally "crane tree"). The name is said to come from the fact that the leaves of this shrub resemble the outstretched wings of a crane.
