Etymology
Cognate to the standard Japanese term かつどう【活動】 katsudou "action". The term was used as an abbreviation of かつどうしゃしん【活動写真】 katsudou shashin (lit. action photo) to mean "moving picture" or "movie" during the silent film era (1894–1929). This usage is now obsolete in standard Japanese.
