Cognate to the Kumamoto and Saga variant ええくらう eekurau "to get drunk". Derived from よい【酔い】 yoi, the nominal form of the verb よう【酔う】 you "to get drunk"; and くらう【食らう・喰らう】 kurau, a verb meaning "to consume, to eat, to drink" or "to become, to receive".
