Etymology
The name ゴクリ stems from the adverb ゴクリ・ごくり gokuri, roughly meaning "gulp down", by analogy with Gollum, a name chosen due to the character's habit of making awful swallowing or gurgling noises. The name may have also been a play on the term ごくり【獄吏】 gokuri "jailer; warder", alluding to the fact that Gollum kept and watched over the One Ring.
