Cognate to Yoron っわー qwaa; Tokunoshima and Okinawan っわー qwaa; Miyako わー waa and ゔぁー vaa; Yaeyama おー oo "pig"; and Yonaguni わー waa.

Although unrelated to standard Japanese ぶた【豚】 buta "pig; swine; hog", the 1818 Vocabulary of the language spoken at the Great Loo-Choo island in the Japan Sea, by Herbert John Clifford, records the term boóta (búta) "pig".
