Etymology

The expression was first popularized by the character named Shenhua in the manga/anime "Black Lagoon", which aired in Japan in 2006.

Notes

Structurally, the internet expression ですだよ desu da yo may either precede a noun in emulation of Chinese or English syntax, or follow a noun as is normal in Japanese. This expression is limited to the online realm and to closed friend circles. It is considered broken Japanese, an effect desired by the creator of Black Lagoon.
