ちゃんぷるー

chanpuruu

Pronunciation: [t͡ɕam̩puɾuː]

Definition

Noun

  1. Chanpuru, Champuru or Champloo is a mixed Okinawan stir-fried dish containing vegetables, tofu, and meat or fish. Common ingredients often include eggs, bean sprouts, bitter melon and pork.

Etymology

Likely originating from the Indonesian or Malay word campur, meaning "mixed (dish)". It would therefore be cognate to the Nagasaki dish ちゃんぽん chanpon "Chanpon or Champon", a mixed noodle dish containing pork, seafood and vegetables fried in lard; as well as the Korean spicy noodle dish called 짬뽕 jjambbong.
