Etymology

Cognate to standard Japanese りゅう・りょう・ろう【竜・龍・襲・籠】  ryuu ~ ryou ~ rou "dragon". Related to Korean 【龍・竜】 용 yong (< 룡 ryong), 농 nong (< 롱 rong), and 방 bang; and Vietnamese 【龍】 long "dragon". Ultimately derived from Chinese 【龙・竜・龍】 (cf. Cantonese lung4; Mandarin lóng, lǒng, néng, and màng); Middle Chinese 【龍】 *liong "dragon".
