- A term used to refer to someone who comes from prefectures other than Okinawa; who comes from the main portion of Japan, including the islands of Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu. A mainlander, an outsider.
Derived from the noun ないち【内地】 naichi, a term used to distinguish the main portion of Japan from namely Okinawa and Hokkaido. The term fell out of use in standard Japanese following World War II, but still remains used in the Ryukyu Islands. Suffixed by the ending あー -aa, meaning "person, people".
