- (Honorific) Used to refer to one's own wife: "Wife", "Dear", "Honey", etc.
Attested under the entry "[Satsuma dialect] Okata ... [Yedo] niôbô ... wife" in Transactions of the Asiatic Society of Japan (1881), page 34.
Historically, the form おかた okata was mostly used by the upper class, while the form うっかた【内方】 ukkata was common among the lower class.
