- Strange-head costume or cosplay: a concept whereby a person dresses up as a human character, but wears a strange or fantastic full-head mask.
Etymology
The first attested usage of the term dates back to early 2008. The concept itself, however, appears to stem from a 2007 anti-piracy campaign ad in which a movie thief is depicted as a camera-headed man. Early online artwork in 2008 tends to focus on camera-headed people. By 2010, the ad started including a police officer with a siren for a head. Online artworks and cosplay works eventually begin including all sorts of different head concepts.
