Auxiliary Verb

  1. (Archaism) Used to mark a preceding verb in its conjunctive form (-i) as being polite or humble.
    1. まらせぬ【見まらせぬ

Etymology

The form is believed to have stemmed from まゐらする mawirasuru (mairasuru) which later evolved into まらする marasuru, まっする massuru, まする masuru, まっす massu and ます masu. The latter form remains common in modern Japanese.
