Etymology

Attested under the entry "[Satsuma dialect] makaru ... [Yedo] yuku ... To go" in Transactions of the Asiatic Society of Japan (1881), page 34. Attested under the entry "Mundalee = makare, spelt according to the transliteration most in use; makaru is still used for 'to go' in the province of Satsuma" in The travels of Peter Mundy in Europe and Asia, 1608-1667 (1907), page 296, edited by Lt.-Col. Sir Richard Carnac Temple, bart.

Possibly related to the verb まかせる【任せる】 makaseru "to entrust" (?< "to leave it to someone")..
